So I ran into someone on the way home...

ooh, i'm updating! yeah, it's been awhile...

its been a pretty interesting past few months. guess i'll just highlight some major points:

winter break was a lot of fun. the first week was basically spent down in Las Vegas with the band for Cal's appearance in the Las Vegas Bowl. we won, so it was a good start to the break. i walked a lot more than i thought i would, as i ended up going to the strip most nights and the hotel was about a 30min walk away. i didnt actually gamble, though. i'm saving that for this summer...

the next week was christmas-new year's. i had a good time and got to relax at home for awhile.

on the 2nd, i left to go spend a week down in socal with my friend terry. i drove through some of the worst weather ever going down there. the wind and rain on the grapevine was so bad, i almost lost control of my car a few times. however, i was soon greeted by sunny southern california, complete with 80-degree days and gas prices at $1.99/gallon. they really do have it better down there....

so one night, we were going back to terry's house. his friend was driving, and i was in the back seat. we were just driving along and all of a sudden, i look up and there's this guy in the road, walking across the street right in front of us. he wasnt paying attention at all, and didnt see the car. i yelled and we slammed on the breaks, but it was too late... thump! we hit the guy, and he falls to the side of the road. we stop the car, get out, and see if he's ok, while terry's friend calls 911. the paramedics and the cops show up and we all give our accounts of what happened. the guy's leg was broken and his shoulder was messed up from where it hit the windshield. at least it wasn't his head... all in all, that was one of the strangest, scariest things that has happened to me.

the rest of the trip was more low key. i had a ton of korean food, bought korean music, checked out korea town, went bowling, went to the LA auto convention, hit up some touristy spots, went to the beach, saw expensive houses and amazing views, wandered through some creepy field and around sleeping homeless men, saw SC lose to texas(the one time i'm on their side and they lose... man), and picked up a strange desire to surf. most definitely one of the coolest trips ever. after the week was done, i drove back into the clouds engulfing the rest of the state to resume my winter.

the rest of the break was pretty laid back. i went golfing a lot, and got to spend some more time with my high school friends.

since school started again, i've kinda fallen back into a weekly routine. classes seem ok so far, nothing too bad. i'm hoping all goes well. ah, i finally declared my major this past week! it took long enough, but it's official now: i'm in Operations Research and Management Science. yep, a big fancy name. its something like business efficiency... on a completely unrelated note, i've joined a blackjack/poker class! they teach us how to count cards and other useful things like how to avoid getting caught. anyways, i should be ready to win some of my money back at the end of the semester!

damn, its a long post. well, when i dont update in several months, this is bound to happen. well, thats about it. later.

Now Playing: nothing... i'm at home.

so, here i am, sitting in brh during the net/trumpet guarding. heh, i'm the only one doing any guarding it seems, since both those sections are out playing games right now... and, since there's no cardkey access after midnight, i'm the one holding down the fort. eh, at least it gives me an excuse to update this thing. and i get to mooch off their food... hehehe.

so yeah, a lot has happened since i updated last. so, i'll give a brief overview of it all. classes are going well overall, but i really can't stand my stat 134 class... the subject is confusing, the pace is fast, and the professor is hard to understand. these all combine to make my tuesdays and thursdays the two worst days of the week. grade-wise, i'm still staying kinda afloat; nobody really understands it, it seems... so the midterm grades were graciously curved in my favor. math 54, e77 and econ 1 are all going well... nothing much to say about those except that i find myself constantly playing catch-up.

the other thing that occupies my time is, of course, Cal Band. It's my third year, and i think it's starting to show. little things are starting to annoy the hell out of me... maybe i just don't agree with the way things are being run this year, maybe it's just the added strain of suddenly having the biggest section in the band... it just seems like theres a lot more conflict this time around. it doesn't help that our football games, and indeed, a shot at any sort of good bowl game, are being ruined by one man alone... Joe Ayoob. Man, this guy is so bad! i gave him the benefit of the doubt for the first few games, but his continued crappy performance is really unacceptable. hell, the student section cheered when he was taken out of the game last saturday!

well, i just finished dying my hair for big game week. the bleach worked really well, but the blue hair dye is a little lighter than expected. on the bleached hair, it kinda looks purple in some lights... not exactly what i wanted, but i may redo it later in the week.

other than that, nothing much has been happening lately. i'm going on a big of a korean movie watching extravaganza, which is actually a lot of fun. there are a lot of good movies i haven't seen!

so yeah, i'm gonna go wash out the dye... later

Now Playing: "California Dreaming," by the Mamas and the Papas

...and so ends the summer that never began.

yeah, the fall semester starts tomorrow, and i'm about as excited as most of the returning students i've talked to recently. but yeah, thats just what it seemed like: the summer never started. i guess that mainly has to do with the fact that i was taking summer school, but it seems like something more than that at times. i don't really know what that is, so its hard to try to explain it, but this summer was just missing something.

maybe it was just a lonely summer. sure, i had class every day and i actually made a new friend, but the other hours of the day were really long and drawn out. its a kind of self-reliance that i hadn't experienced before and, as it turns out, that i am actually slightly afraid of. college is half over for me now, and with the start of this semester, the thought of me being on my own permanently keeps coming back. video games and flash animations aren't cutting it anymore; i need to find something else to do when i'm on my own

ack, this is starting to sound depressing, and i've never really wanted to just complain about stuff like this online to other people. it seems kinda self-centered. maybe its just the whole day-before-school mood i'm in.

anyways, to all the people who i spent time with over the summer, be it a month at work or a few hours on campus, thanks. you gave me something to look forward to during the monotony.

Now Playing: oh god, how appropriate. "In A Lonely Place," from the Oldboy soundtrack. hahaha

and now its the 19th of july. another tuesday. math is getting progressively harder, and i realized today that i'm falling into the trap of knowing stuff up until the day of the test.... and then having it slowly leak from my brain as we move on. hell, i couldnt tell you the subject of two chapters ago if you asked. while my midterm grades are ok (high B range), im still worried about the upcoming final, which is most likely cumulative. oh well, it's easier to learn stuff the second time around, right?

uhhh... i'm living off of rice, cereal, and peanut butter and jelly. it's not actually that bad, i try to keep it varied as much as possible. i had a hamburger tonight, and sucessfully got mustard all over my shirt... the pump thing was clogged, and then magically wasn't.

man, this is pretty random.  i guess i'm just trying to find something to do. math and ps2 can only get me so far. i discovered a new interesting show. its called Paranoia Agent, and if you're ever up at 1am on a saturday night, you should check it out. its pretty weird if you just catch one episode, but the series as a whole is really good. and, it's only 13 episodes, so it's not a big committment.

uh, i think thats about it. oh yeah, i spent the past weekend in a cabin with my family near santa cruz. not a rustic cabin, but a wired, satellite tv-receiving cabin. of course, the one lane dirt road to get there wasn't much fun. but, i got to go to the beach two days in a row, so i had a great time.

now thats it. later.

Now Playing "Nights in White Satin," by The Moody Blues. aah, something non-asian? dont worry... a new cd is on its way.

it's tuesdy! so, i had an interesting and overall fun 4th of july weekend.  after my first test/midterm on friday, i headed into san francisco to meet up with my bro and my mom. we had lunch near haight-ashbury, and then went to golden gate park and rented a paddleboat. after that, we made a quick stop in japantown, where i picked up some curry rice mix and some japanese drink.

on sunday, i went bowling with andy, jorge, ryan, kim, and one of kim's friends. man, i can't remember her name now, but she went to junior high with me. man, it got pretty crazy. win poses after strikes, completely random names (e.g., lunches, developmentally, my size flute, mexi can...), dancing to the crazy miami vice-like music, it was tons of fun!

some random guy on the lane next to us had paid for people who didnt show up, so i ended up playing 6 games of bowling for $6! not too bad, in my opinion. afterwards, ryan, kim and i went to taco bell and ate in the parking lot (it was already midnight, so the dining room was closed). hehe, we ended up staying there until 1:40, discussing politics, my cartooning, college, and if you can get free refills from the drive-thru.

monday was the 4th of course, and since i'm spending my birthday at cal this year, we decided to do presents and stuff early. i got lots of cool and useful stuff like new clothes, a small fan for my room, and money. man, i must be getting older... clothes arent that bad of a gift... hehehe  my bro got me a bunch of those candles with pictures of saints on them, and the coolest ps2 game, Katamari Damacy! words don't do this game justice, and it's kinda hard to describe it's appeal. its just really.... japanese.

monday night, we went to my grandma's place to watch the fireworks from cal state stanislaus, which is conveniently two blocks away from her house. the show was pretty good, but i had to drive back to berkeley that night. its really distracting when you're driving on the freeway and fireworks are randomly going off the entire way.

so, its a short week. my birthday is tomorrow; i'm going to cook myself some curry rice, which i've been craving for awhile. also, the campus warning siren test is tomorrow, which i always look forward to! well, thats about it. my last post as a teenager! sniff... where did the time go? later

Now Playing: "Katamari on the Rock," by Masayuki Tanaka. yeah, its from the game. an amazing soundtrack!

WotD: "one-seven!" hehe, you had to be there
